Summary
Counterpart International is seeking a Communications Specialist for a 4 year USAID-funded Civil Society Strengthening Program in Morocco. With the support of the Chief of Party and headquarters staff, the Communications Specialist will work with local and national media and CSOs to promote program activities and provide technical assistance, guidance and coaching support to implementing partners in public outreach, public relations, and effective media communications and relations. S/he will be responsible for developing the program’s communication strategy, preparing regular reports, press releases, success stories, and other materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement and evaluate the program’s communications strategy to inform primary and secondary stakeholders in Morocco, and other audiences about the project, including the development of success stories and weekly news.
- In coordination with the project’s technical component leads, provide technical assistance and guidance to the main beneficiaries and partners to support their public outreach, public relations and media communications and relations.
- Develop and produce communications materials tied to program objectives.
- Ensure a targeted, coherent, and consistent message from all program staff and partners.
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all program deliverables, including print, audiovisual and electronic communications materials, program reports, press releases, and success stories.
- Ensure compliance with USAID branding and marking for program materials and events, including those of sub-grantees.
- Prepare materials for high-level visitors, including: scene setters, trip itineraries, photographs, event agendas, success stories, press releases and reports, and video presentations of the project.
- Oversee the development and operation of the program’s online portals, public website and social media accounts to provide general information and reporting on program activities.
- Maintain a calendar of program events in close coordination with the program’s senior staff, partners and field coordinators.
- Prepare and update a standard information package on the program for briefings and for distribution to the public and the media, any other agencies (materials include program briefing papers, program status public reports, results pages, maps, photos…etc.)
- Commitment to gender integration, experience with gender integration a plus.
- Manage all media relations and facilitate contacts among members of the media and program implementers and partners to encourage coverage of program activities in the local press when needed.
- In coordination with the procurement officer, serve as the focal point for the management of communication contracts when outreach products are outsourced.
- Participate in field trips as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional communications experience, ideally providing strategic communications for international development programs, with a minimum of three (3) years under USAID projects.
- Experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
- Capability of crafting information messages in various media formats (press releases, websites, press articles, etc.) targeting a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and organizational skills.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
- Social Media Skills are required including content development and online community management
- Ability to work well in a team within multi-cultural work environment, able to work effectively with CSOs, USAID, program staff, and other beneficiaries.
- Knowledge of word processing is required.
- Familiarity with electronic mail and web site development is required
- Experience in managing communication contacts is required.
- Written and oral fluency in French, Arabic, and English required.
